Abstract

ZAGO, Maria Cristina; ILARIO, Enídio  and  TERZIS, Antonios. The rave party and fantasy world: a psychoanalytic study. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.1, pp. 14-22. ISSN 1677-2970.

Several cultural manifestations express the dialogue between men and the social context in which they are inserted. In this sense, the electronic music gains more and more space in urban nightlife of young adults, and the rave party is one of the scenarios of this music style. This article discusses the rave party as a cultural phenomenon interviewing informally two Disc Jockeys (DJs) on the grounds of Sigmund Freud’s theory and Group Analysis concepts. The expression that best defines the present study is the perception of the rave party as a dream; a place of consented transgressions and a possible space for the hallucinatory wish realization, which is interdicted by the moral laws imposed by the culture, thus giving the opportunity to enter in the world of phantasy. The rave party constitutes itself with music and drug use in search of freedom and escapism of a world that causes discontentment in the Freudian sense of the term.
