Abstract

JUNQUEIRA, Anamélia Maria Guimarães  and  CARNIEL, Isabel Cristina. Views on madness: groups in Gorizia's experience. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp. 12-22. ISSN 1677-2970.

This article aims to highlight the importance of groups during the Gorizia Psychiatric Hospital opening process in Italy. Not only is it a landmark in the Italian psychiatric reform, but it is also a great influence upon Brazilian Psychiatric Reform. Based on the book coordinated by Franco Basaglia entitled “Instituição Negada: relato de um hospital psiquiátrico”, it was intended to accent the assemblies’ major role in the deconstruction of domineering and excluding practices in lunatic asylums. We expect this study to bring contributions to contemporary practices on mental health and to further studies on group situations, both in development.

Keywords : Mental health; Group; Psychiatric Reform.
