Abstract

MANTOVANI, Alexandre. The religious group: ritual and dream. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.1, pp. 11-20. ISSN 1677-2970.

For Anzieu, group can be considered as a dream, an object of investment and a space for the imaginary realization of desires. In this paper we explore this analogy between group and dream proposed by Anzieu for the study of religion. Based on research about situations witnessed in African-Brazilian cults, considerations are made about dream productions in the forms of condensation and displacement contained during the ritual. In this way, the article shows the possibility of using of psychoanalytic contributions about group as a theoretical resource for religious phenomena research, including trance possession, which is characteristic of African-Brazilian religions.
