Abstract

ALMEIDA, Maíra Lopes  and  RASERA, Emerson Fernando. Group processes in "lord of the flies": a pichon-riviére analysis. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2013, vol.14, n.2, pp. 114-125. ISSN 1677-2970.

This essay aims to analyse the group situation in the film entitled "The Lord of the Flies" using the theory of Pichon-Rivière. A linkage between theoretical concepts by Pichon-Rivière and scenes portrayed in the film are made. The film tells the story of a group of children who suffer an airplane accident when coming back home, and is forced to live on an island. The pilot, the only adult in the plane, dies. Thus, the film deals with the children struggle for survival and enable us to understand it through the Pichon-Rivière concepts of roles, task and types of leaders. This analysis produces a new perspective of this classic, emphasizing how group processes influence the development of the narrative.

Keywords : The Lord of the flies; Pichon-Rivière; group; Psychology.
