The Psychosocial Care Centres (CAPS) are mental health care units that offer its users intensive care provided by a multidisciplinary team. However, are these units able to provide assistance in accordance with the principles establish by the Psychiatric Reform? This question that motivated the realization of study, realized in a CAPS of Minas Gerais. Three visits were made and registered through observation, semi-structured interviews and field logs. Social, political and relational barriers were perceived among institutional practices, contrary to the underlying principles of the Reform. Hence, an effective implementation is multifactorial issue. Thus, discussion rooms are suggested, in order to develop innovative care practices supporting the aims of the Psychiatric Reform.
