Conjugal violence is a phenomenon of great complexity and the particularities of its functioning dynamics, being it sexual, physical or psychological ought to be analyzed. Thus, the aim to this study was not only to comprehend the dynamics of conjugal relationships under violent circumstances, referring to the history of the family and marriage, but also the coping strategies that they use. Hence, multiple case studies with three couples from the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre were held. They were between 30 and 45 years old, (a = 37.66) and were together for about 18 yeas. Data were obtained from semi-structured interviews and from the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2). Results revealed that violence was present under different forms and was committed by both partners. Moreover, it was observed the existence of specific conjugal patterns that favored the occurrence and maintenance of violent acts in their relationships and the necessity of interventions within couples under these circumstances.
