Abstract

CASSARINO-PEREZ, Luciana; ALVES, Cássia Ferrazza  and  DELL'AGLIO, Débora Dalbosco. Social support in adolescents with type 1 Diabetes: a systematic review. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2014, vol.15, n.1, pp. 33-48. ISSN 1677-2970.

Through a systematic literature review in electronic databases, this studied investigated social support among teenagers with Diabetes Mellitus type1. Following pre-established inclusion criteria, 124 studies were retrieved. Moreover, it was also analyzed the amount of publications per year, country of origin, methodologies, used samples and types of support. It was observed an increase in publications since 2005 and a majority of quantitative studies with American adolescents. Furthermore, parents, family and health care teams were identified as the main source of support. It was concluded that, generally, social support is understood as protection factor, contributing with metabolic control, illness management and participation in treatment.

Keywords : social support; Diabetes Mellitus; adolescent.
