Abstract

This study focuses on the psychopathological aspects of drug addiction and its implications in the parents-addict relationship. The objective is to reflect upon the functioning of support groups for families of drug addicts based on psychoanalytical approach, taking the experience of the author as a group coordinator in the Amor Exigente program as starting point. It also describes the program and presents a qualitative analysis of the affective-emotional phenomena experienced in family support groups, showing the occurrence of six distinct phases that make the support group to function as an adjunct in the process of recovering drug addicts.
