Abstract

CORREIA-ZANINI, Marta Regina Gonçalves  and  MARTURANO, Edna Maria. Stress symptoms in students attending first grade. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2015, vol.16, n.1, pp. 28-42. ISSN 1677-2970.

Seeking to contribute to the field of child development, this study aimed at verifying the manifestation of stress symptoms in students on their first year in primary school seven public schools, considering their gender and school of attendance. With a transversal methodology, this research included 100 boys and 86 girls who took the Infantile Stress Scale (ISS). In the results, more than 50% of the children had stress symptoms. Boys showed significantly more psychophysiological reactions. There were only slight differences among schools. The high percentage of children with stress symptoms is in accordance to the viewpoint of the first year as a potentially stressful transition. The findings are useful for the development of preventive and interventional programs in the school context.

Keywords : infantile stress; school transition; first year.
