Abstract

The present study aimed to identify and describe the coping strategies used by patients, care giver sand healthcare professionals in the field of chronic diseases. 17 people who live in a town of the Brazilian State Goiás were interviewed. In addition to the transcription on the interviews, a thorough reading of the data was carried so that the most relevant issues related to coping strategies would emerge. The results showed that most caregivers were women. Preferably, direct coping strategies were used. Furthermore, the use of avoid ant coping strategies were identified, especially denial and non-acceptance. Thus, it is important to instill direct coping strategies for this population.
