Abstract

Nowadays, the are different forms of being a couple, arising questions on the direction love relationships with have in the long term. This article was aimed at comprehending the perception of people in a long-term marriage about marital relationships nowadays. This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study carried with nine people. Data were submitted to content analysis and results show that, according to participants, our current context affects love relationships processes of getting closer and rupture. These repercussions are target of criticism of the participants, who, based on moral judgments, prevent any improvements. Love relationships go on a transition period, which could be associated to social, economical and cultural changes. These changes are neither negative nor positive, but reflect the complexity of a phenomenon that needs to remain under investigation.
