Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe the meanings produced by men over sixty on their personal resources for successful aging, from the perspective of appreciative inquiry social construction. Thus, a group meeting was held with 6 men aged 61 to 81 years. Appreciative questions about stories of personal achievement and current resources in building well-being led the conversation. The analysis of the meeting stressed the meanings produced about satisfactory on aging: the assessment of social support networks, the importance of further study, the contact with contemporary events, the professional recognition even after retirement, the possibility to be useful in your community, the care with the body and performing physical activities while accompanied. The intent of the researchers in considering the participants to be people with valuable stories to be shared on positive aging and the conversations' structure allowed meanings on the topic to be created and explored.
