The aim of this article was to evaluate and compare the communication between couples with children in different stages of vital family cycle and the different levels of functionality defined through cohesion, adaptability and marital adjustment. The sample consisted in 266 people, married or in a stable union with children from 0 to 18 years old. The participants answered individually to an online protocol consisting on the following: a socio demographic questionnaire, Marital Inventory Communication Scale, the Dutch Marital Satisfaction and Communication Questionnaire, the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (Faces III) and also the Dyadic Adjustment Scale. The results of this research may support clinical practice and studies on marital communication, since negative communication has been found to permeate the entire marital life cycle, especially in the first years of marriage.
