Abstract

BORGES, Máira Morena  and  PETEAN, Eucia Beatriz Lopes. Fetal malformation: maternal coping, attachment and indicators of anxiety and depression. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2018, vol.19, n.2, pp. 137-148. ISSN 1677-2970.

In view of the diagnosis of fetal malformation, this study aimed to know the coping strategies used by pregnant women and their relation to maternal fetal attachment, anxiety, depression and diagnosis. 33 pregnant women attended at the Fetal Medicine Outpatient Clinic of a school hospital in the state of São Paulo. We used Scale Modes of Confronting Problems, Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale, Beck Anxiety and Depression Inventory and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. The coping strategy most used by pregnant women was focused on the search for religious practices and/or fantasy thought. Pregnant women with higher levels of attachment used a priority strategy to focus on the problem, and no pregnant woman presented indices of anxiety and depression classified as severe.

Keywords : congenital anomaly; coping; anxiety; depression; attachment.
