The objective of this article is to do a theoretical path about the Oedipus complex in the Freud and Lacan works through a clipping at this issue to discuss the relation between this event and the advent of the Unconscious. Because this is a fundamental point of psychoanalytic theory, this article intends to emphasize the symbolic bias of this operation responsible by the transition from nature to culture. We will use the myth of the primeval horde described in Totem and Taboo, passing by Oedipus complex as a triangulation as proposed in the work of Freud and, finally, it will be introduced the relation of this operation with the advent of language as a result of father's death in both myths, promoting the entry in the culture.
