WAGNER, Marcia Fortes; PICCININI, Jéssica; PICCININI, Juliana  e  PATIAS, Naiana Dapieve. Empathy, symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress in higher education teachers. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2019, vol.20, n.2, pp. 55-67. ISSN 1677-2970.

This study aimed to characterize empathy, and the presence of symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress in Higher Education teachers. In addition, it aimed to investigate the correlations between these variables. Participated in this study 50 professors, aged between 25 to 57 years (M = 34.92; SD = 6.95). The "Empathy Inventory" (EI) and the "Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale" (DASS-21) were used. Descriptive analyzes, Spearman correlation, and Mann-Whitney U test were performed. The EI factors presented average values, indicating developed empathy. Symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress were identified in a small portion of the sample, with a statistically significant correlation between stress and "perspective-taking" (rho = -0.47; p = 0.001), showing that variations in the mood caused changes in the empathy components.
