Abstract

AFONSO, Renan de Morais; ENUMO, Sônia Regina Fiorin  and  DELLAZZANA-ZANON, Letícia Lovato. Purpose in life in adolescents with problematic use of psychoactive substances. Rev. SPAGESP [online]. 2021, vol.22, n.2, pp. 47-57. ISSN 1677-2970.

ABSTRACT This paper aims to investigate the life purposes of adolescents undergoing specialized outpatient treatment for problematic use of psychoactive substances. A collective case study was carried out with seven male adolescents, between 14 and 18 years old, over thirteen weeks. A semi-structured interview was used, and the data were analyzed based on the dimensions of the Purpose in Life Scale for Adolescents. The results showed that there were more life purposes in the Positive Aspirations and Affective Relationship dimensions and fewer life projects in the Religion/Spirituality and Sense of Life dimensions. It was concluded that the treatment at the outpatient clinic served as space for adolescents to organize their lives and favored the construction of their life purposes.

Keywords : Purpose in life; Drug abuse; Adolescence; Adolescent psychology.
