This paper is the result of an intervention project carried out in a public elementary school in the city of Aracaju (Sergipe, Brazil), to promote actions of coping with racism among students and, at the same time, develop strategies to value the ethnic-racial identity of black children and teenagers. This initiative was supported by the extension work project of the Federal University of Sergipe. We worked with approximately 80 students, from the 1st to the 5th year of elementary school, the majority being black. Interventional activities were carried out in the following axes: Self-acceptance: positive appreciation of social identity; Recognition of differences and respect for diversity; Development of positive attitudes towards different groups. The results evidenced changes in the children's racial identity, through the increase of individual and group self-esteem, racial pride and positive intergroup attitudes.
