Abstract

PERES, Rodrigo Sanches  and  SANTOS, Manoel Antonio dos. Phantasmatic limitation and somatic vulnerability in onco-hematological patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2005, vol.3, n.1, pp. 85-101. ISSN 2175-3547.

The present study has the intention of analyzing the personalities of subjects undergoing bone marrow transplants (BMT). In this regard, ten candidates for the reported procedure (onco-hematological patients) were assessed with a battery of psychological instruments composed of four projective techniques, an analytical technique and a semi-structured psychological interview. The collected data were qualitatively appraised according to the criteria of the specific scientific literature. Additionally, the data were interpreted according to the psychoanalitycal psychosomatic optics by the utilization of Pierre Marty´s theoretical propositions. The formulated interpretations indicate that operational functioning is one of the main habitual particularities of the personality of the participants of the present study. Furthermore, the data indicate that subjects show, in most cases, structural specificities common to behavioral neurosis, because they show a reduced capacity of sublimation, because they tend to transmit limited mental representations, they are characterized by a phantasmatic activity deficit and, as consequence, they possess an accentuated somatic vulnerability. Those results offered support for the understanding of the main dynamic and structural-personality characteristics of the evaluated patients and, as a consequence, supported the improved treatment that was offered to this population.
