Abstract

With the purpose of encouraging work in the area of pediatric psycho-oncology, a discussion on scientific and professional aspects of this specific health area is proposed. To this end, a brief background on the work carried out by the Laboratory of Health and Human Development, highlighting their projects of intervention, development and research.    The contribution of psychoanalysis on the focus of the mother and child-with-cancer dyad is highlighted. Also touched upon is child confrontation beginning with an analysis of the international child-adolescent literature, such as Through the Mirror, The Little Match girl, The Lead Soldier, and The Ass and the Mule. Lastly, the child’s perception in relation to disease and his or her body through playtime material.
