Abstract

SOUZA, Elisângela Arantes de et al. A psychoanalytic approach quality of life among the elderly under geriatric care. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2006, vol.4, n.2, pp. 1-39. ISSN 2175-3547.

The objective of the study was to investigate the representations about quality of life among elders in the Geriatric Service of the ICHC-FMUSP. An Semi-structured and a story drawing procedure as proposed by Vaisberg (1997) were used. The data was analyzed by the Frequency Analysis of Content, and qualitatively by psychological reference. With the in-pacients, it was that the experience of the hospitalization has a significant impact on their perception about quality of life. At the Multidisciplinary Outpatient Care for the Elderly (Acronym in Portuguese: Gamia), the demand for quality of life is greater because the elderly are more critical. At the ambulatory, the representations of quality of life is related to personality characteristics and not to the outpatient experience. Although such study have been done in hospitals, not many clinical issues showed up, but rather social and emotional issues showing the necessity of interdisciplinary work.

Keywords : Representation; Quality of life; Elderly; Psychoanalysis.
