Abstract

BANHATO, Eliane Ferreira Carvalho et al. Digital inclusion: promoting tool for active cognitive, social and emotional health. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2007, vol.5, n.2, pp. 2-20. ISSN 2175-3547.

The increase in number of the Brazilian elderly, in the absence of quality of life during these years, turns the aging into a challenge for the XXI century. An important issue is related to changes on the death patterns, such as the dementia.  The digital inclusion of elderly people could work as a tool of prevetion of the cognitive decline. This work studied the influence of the digital inclusion on the cognitive performance of elderly peolple. The sample was composed of 51 elderly people with ages ranging from 60 to 88 years (M=67.71; DP=6.57) and average education level of 10.14 (DP=3.92) years. The results showed improvement on the processing speed (t=3.939; p=0.001) and on the task-planning ability (t=3.504; p=0.001). The study concluded that the  implementation of public programs that make the acquiring of such knowledge by elderly people possible is of great importance.
