Abstract

In consideration to limitations reported by many authors on the aplication of Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (MCST) and the benefits of the reduced version proposed by Nelson in 1976, the Modified Card Sorting Test (MCST), this study look at contribute to the validation of the modified version in Brazil. The central aim of this study was to verify the influence of schooling of the elderly performance in MCST. Thirdy subjects was selected with 70 to 73 years old, with diferents schooling degrees. As the result of the study, the subjects with 0 to 4 years of schooling presented an average of 1,8 categories completed and 31,1 faults; that ones with 5 to 9 years, 3,6 categories and 18,4 faults; and the subjects with more than 9 years of study, 5,4 categories and 9,3 faults. The education demonstrated be a factor that influenced significatly the performance of this subjects on the test
