Abstract

RIBEIRO, Roberta Oliveira Barbosa et al. The RIME intervention as a resource for the well-being of patients ostomates. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.2, pp. 83-102. ISSN 1677-7409.

This quantitative and qualitative, exploratory and prospective field study was conducted in order to evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of the "Relaxation, Mental Images and Spirituality" (RIME) Therapeutic Intervention, taking into consideration the well-being of a group of patients in the intermediate post operative period suffering from intestinal ostomy. A total of 21 patients participated, all of whom completed the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for Well-Being before and after the RIME. The mean VAS values were 3.33 and 1.38, respectively. From the question of how they felt emotionally before the surgery and after the RIME intervention, the following contextual units emerged: Feeling, emotion, sensation, and expectation of action, which generated four distinct categories that represented the transformation related to their psychological well-being. The conclusion was that the RIME was the only variable that was statistically significant, which confirmed that RIME contributed to improving the emotional well-being of the ostomy patients.
