Abstract

HARTMANN, Silvana Pinto  and  WAGNER, Gabriela Peretti. Delirium evaluation tools in intensive care units: a systematic review of the literature. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.1, pp. 02-18. ISSN 1677-7409.

The aim of this study was to investigate which tools healthcare professionals have used in the evaluation of delirium in intensive care units (ICU). The method employed in this study was a systematic literature review, through database searches of the Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), the PsycINFO, the Scopus and the PubMed, using the following descriptors and their combinations in Portuguese and English languages: Delirium, Evaluation, Diagnosis and "Intensive Care Units." Through the analysis of the 32 selected studies, it is evident that the Confusion Assessment Method in Intensive Care Units (CAM-ICU) is the method most often cited in research, being a validated tool of high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of delirium in critically ill patients. It was observed that delirium has been evaluated mainly by physicians and nurses.
