PESENTE, Lucinéia; OLIVEIRA, Mirian Akiko Furutani; BENUTE, Glaucia Rosana Guerra  and  LUCIA, Mara Cristina Souza de. Effects of transcranial electrical stimulation in the performance of executive tasks. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2015, vol.13, n.1, pp. 91-109. ISSN 1677-7409.

Several therapeutic techniques have been designed to change neural patterns related to pathological states. In addition to the therapeutic use of these techniques, cognitive enhancement has gained ground in this field. Such techniques are based on the neural modulation of brain activity, including the one known as The Transcranianial Direct Current Stimulation (TDCS). This paper aims to analyze the neuromodulatory effects of TDCS on executive functions in healthy adults. The databases of PubMed, MEDLINE (via PubMed), BVS and Science Direct published over the last years. The key words used were electrical stimulation and executive functions. The results obtained in the experiments of TDCS in healthy patients were favorable to the cognitive improvements of the executive functions. The participants that received the TDCS obtained significantly higher performance in the tests used in comparison to the control group.

Keywords : Electrical stimulation; executive functions; Neuromodulation.
