Abstract

ORTIZ, Bruna Rafaela de Assis; GIGUER, Fabiana Faria  and  GRZYBOWSKI, Luciana Suárez. Patients with limitation on verbal communication:: practice of psychologist in ICU. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2016, vol.14, n.2, pp. 42-62. ISSN 2175-3547.

This study aims to present the technical resources and management used by psychologists in the ICU, with patients unable to communicate verbally. There was performed an integrative review from the national literature, based on PePSIC, SciELO and LILACS about the resources used by psychologists in their practice with patients under these conditions. We used the key words: Psychologist, Hospital Psychology and Intensive Care. We found 1117 articles, remaining four for analysis, after applying the exclusion criteria. The research was complemented with the inclusion of national books on Hospital Psychology. We found ten books, including six that presented chapters with the focus of this work. We observed the indication of technical support tools, communication codes and the use of corporal expression, as well as the need for greater communication between team and family members, as intervention resources. However, there are few publications on the topic addressed, which requires greater creativity of the psychologist to bring relief to the anguish of these patients.

Keywords : ICU; Psychology; Nonverbal communication.
