Abstract

BROTTO, Aline Maran  and  GUIMARAES, Ana Beatriz Pedriali. Therapeutic group of psychological support to children in visual under habilitation/rehabilitation: contributions to social development. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.1, pp.43-68. ISSN 2175-3547.

The influence of family in the treatment of patients with chronic diseases is a rather significant subject, especially regarding the cultural differences and the way of accepting and living with the disease. The objective of this research was to investigate the influence of family in the treatment of patients with chronic diseases, analyzing the psychological characteristics and the coping strategies used by the patient and his family to handle this reality. This research is a literature review of publications in Portuguese, period of 2007 to 2016. We concluded that the chronic patient does not tend to fall sick alone, his family fall sick together. We perceived that the family also mobilize itself to experience this moment, facing the problems related directly to the family dynamics. From this, strategies are searched and created to live with the disease, so its acceptance and the losses it may bring are bypassed; so that the chronic patient may have the most functional possible life in his current reality.
