This article aims to understand the emotional aspects of healthcare professionals that deal directly with issues of death and grief that emerge from the loss. It is a research based on descriptive and literature review. The data collection was from books and scientific articles of SciELO, Google Academic, LILASC and PePSIC database. The information allowed to elaborate category of analysis that points to the feelings, perceptions and coping mechanism of professionals who experience in a daily basis the process of death and dying, in which factors such as the academic unpreparedness to confront these situations are attributed. The study emphasized the need to encourage health professionals to think and discuss better the process of death and dying, allowing reflections for better coping their own feelings and sufferings related to the loss.
