BRITO, Daniella de; ARSUFI, Juliana de Souza; SOUSA, Bárbara de Oliveira Prado  e  PRETO, Vivian Aline. Perception of nurses against the patient with suicide behavior. Psicol. hosp. (São Paulo) [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.1, pp. 43-66. ISSN 2175-3547.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the perception and feelings of the nurses of a hospital unit and emergency unit towards suicidal behavior. To do so, a qualitative-descriptive research using a structured questionnaire and applied to 10 nurses of the described units was carried out. The results showed that some nurses still blame the family for suicidal behavior. They also related this behavior to increasing their rates of psychological distress, pre-existence of mental disorders, substance use and social isolation. The lack of structure and professional qualification is also indicated as an essential aspect for improving assistance. The main contributions of this study are to identify nurses' perception of suicidal behavior, highlighting the lack of professional preparation and assistance structures that generate negative feelings among professionals, noting the need for new strategies to approach the theme, resulting in a higher professional qualification.
