This paper was based on a Master's dissertation submitted to the Post-Graduation Program in Education from the Catholic University in Minas Gerais - Pontifícia Universidade Católica, in 2005. The dissertation was entitled: The School Philosophical Development in Minas Gerais during the XIX century - a philosophy of compendium: a research on philosophy as an academic discipline in the Liceu Mineiro (1854-1890). The research was intended to serve as the theoretical basis for the dissertation, a study on the historical reconstitution of philosophy as a discipline in this important high school in Minas Gerais in the XIX century. From the date of its foundation in 1854 up to 1990, the referred high school was subject to major changes - not only does its name change but also the discipline of philosophy ceases to be part of the school curriculum. The concept analysis of the school system is briefly presented on the grounds of a study carried out by Vincent; Lahire & Thin (2001), highlighting its importance for a historical investigation of the school disciplines.
