Abstract

MOREIRA, Hélvio Feliciano; MICHELS, Luciano Rhinow  and  COLOSSI, Nelson. Educational inclusion of university students with disabilities: the promise with university teaching. Escritos educ. [online]. 2006, vol.5, n.1, pp. 19-25. ISSN 1677-9843.

This article intends to discuss some aspects related to educational inclusion of university students with disabilities, showing how the subject has been treated in social context. It debates some conceptions of inclusion, understood as a process of recognition of the fact that people with disabilities have right to education, especially when it comes to primary and secondary school. The work registers legal points and indicates aspects that should be observed in order to include these people. In this manner, the purpose of this study is raising the discussion and suggesting the reflection on reality and needs of university students with disabilities. It shows some advances in legislation and in the use of new technologies, and presents positive changes related to accessibility. However, the paper indicates that these measures are not enough - they still need to be improved.
