Abstract

BIAZZI, Fábio de. Organizational Commitment: compromise or submission?. Psicol. USP [online]. 1996, vol.7, n.1-2, pp. 73-94. ISSN 1678-5177.

Organizational Commitment has been defined and analised since 1960. Its meaning embraces the acceptance of organizational values and rules by the individuals, their engagement and effort in behalf of enterprises’ targets. The studies on this theme have been excessivelly quantitative, trying to determine causes and effects of Organizational Commitment. For this reason, they do not concentrate attention on the main question behind the concept: the changing of ways that organizations utilize to exercise power over workers. More than a critical view on such studies or an analysis of Organizational Commitment concept, the main target of this essay is to promote a discussion about these tenuous manners of domination that individuals face under new forms of work organization.

Keywords : Organizational commitment; Organizations; Work; Power; Personnel; Organizational behavior.
