Abstract

BONFIM, Talma Alzira; ESBROGEO, Marystella Carvalho  and  SOARES, Dulce Helena Penna. A preliminary study on practices in vocational guidance. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.1-2, pp. 21-34. ISSN 1984-7270.

Considering the rapid changes in the current world of work, this study aims at describing some Vocational Guidance practices in Brazil. The subjects were 84 members of the IV Brazilian Symposium on Vocational & Occupational Guidance. The sample consisted of 66 psychologists and 18 pedagogues. A questionnaire was applied containing four categories of questions: (1) professional data, (2) kinds of practices, (3) characterization of the clientele, and (4) needs and perspectives in this field of activity. The data were categorized into two groups: pedagogues and psychologists; and treated quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed chiefly three aspects: the psychologists acted more; some theoretical approaches prevail in the interventions; and the clients were females and attending high school. It was concluded that public policies are necessary to provide greater capability of the professionals as well as to implement Vocational Guidance projects in schools, centers, firms and institutions, widening the range of the actions carried out with specific groups of the population.

Keywords : Vocational guidance; Brazilian counselors; Vocational guidance practice.
