Abstract

JENSCHKE, Bernhard. The international cooperation: challenges and needs for guidance and counseling to face the worldwide changes in work and society. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.1-2, pp. 35-55. ISSN 1984-7270.

The Conference discusses international cooperation and the needs for preparing Guidance and Counseling Professionals to face the worldwide changes in work and society. It points out the consequences of globalization and the use of Information and Communication Technology, its impacts on social and personal life and the challenges posed by international competition. That generates the need for continued education - as recommended by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) - and, thus, for continued Guidance. The Conference proposes that career should connect personal life and work and therefore career development should be understood as a lifelong process demanding the ability to make decisions and the management of unexpected situations. The Conference also states that governments and national agencies responsible for the promotion and development of human resources should guarantee the services of career education and guidance, as needed.

Keywords : International cooperation in guidance; Career education; Guidance and counseling; Continued education; Continued guidance.
