LOBATO, Carmem Regina Poli Sayão. Vocational maturity and gender: adaptation and use of the brazilian professional development inventory. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.1-2, pp. 57-69. ISSN 1984-7270.

The aim of the study was to investigate the vocational maturity, among high school students, considering the gender and sex. Ninety-eight individuals (50 females and 48 males), aged seventeen to nineteen years old, answered the Brazilian Professional Development Inventory (BPDI), adapted to Brazil, to measure their vocational maturity, and the Bem Sex Role Inventory to assess their gender. An ANOVA revealed sex differences [F(1,97)=4,065; p<0,02], and gender differences [F(2,96)=5,02; p<0,03] in the vocational maturity. Women search for more information about the working world, but on the other hand, men plan their career better. Planning a career in this group has something to do with social masculine and feminine roles. The results also showed that the adapted BPDI may be considered a reliable instrument to be used in research, for the planning and assessment of individual and grouping vocational orientation.
