Abstract

FIAMENGUE, Elis Cristina. Higher education and feminine professionalization: VUNESP university candidates’ mothers and their influence on their children’s choices (the eighties x the nineties). Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2003, vol.4, n.1-2, pp. 117-139. ISSN 1984-7270.

In this paper we present data about the education and occupation of candidates’ mothers, analyzed on the research entitled “10 years after: UNESP - Different candidates’ profiles for different courses (cultural capital variables studies)”, aiming at contributing to the debate about women’ conquests and at discussing the mother’s influence over university candidates’ choices. Our perspective is the sociological analysis, and we search to apprehend and understand changes in the Brazilian society, using for that the University Entrance Test phenomena, with the purpose of giving additional subsidies for the professional guidance issue. Quantitative data analysis, when done in a qualitative way, trying to establish connections, may lead to important clues about social processes.
