TALAVERA, Elvira Repetto et al. International competencies for educational and vocational guidance practitioners. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2004, vol.5, n.1, pp. 1-14. ISSN 1984-7270.

This article describes a project launched by the International Association for Educational and Vocational Guidance (IAEVG) in 1999 and approved by its General Assembly in 2003. The project’s main goals are: identify the international competencies necessary for the development of educational and vocational guidance work in different contexts and countries, to propose recommendations for the qualification of the practitioners. An executive committee with experts from more than 10 countries was organized. A first draft of the project was sent to the committee members and their teams. The model proposed defines two categories of competencies: core competencies, required from all practitioners, and specific competencies that can be necessary depending on their work setting and the type of clients attended. Specific competencies concern: assessment, educational guidance, career development, counseling, information, consulting, research, programs and service management, community development and employment. The authors propose are that these international competencies can serve as guidelines to guidance practitioners in different countries.
