Abstract

BALBINOTTI, Marcos Alencar Abaide; WIETHAEUPER, Daniela  and  BARBOSA, Marcus Levi Lopes. Levels of crystallization of professional preferences in high school students. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2004, vol.5, n.1, pp. 15-28. ISSN 1984-7270.

Crystallization of a professional preference is considered to be one of the developmental career stages, in which adolescents search for their own identity considering the field and types of activities that best suit them. This research aims at exploring crystallization levels considering sex, age, high school term, and school (public or private). A sample of 860 high school students of both sexes, with ages ranging from 14 to 18 years, from both public and private schools, were invited to answer the Vocational Rating Scale (VRS). Results indicate a significant difference on the variable “school type”. One of the conclusions is that the adolescents from public schools may be compelled (as a result of an unfavorable financial situation) to accept the first job opportunities offered them, without much reflection about their preferences regarding the work field.

Keywords : Crystallization; Adolescence; Career Development.
