BAIOCCHI, Alexandre Collares  e  MAGALHAES, Mauro. Relations between commitment, entrenchment and life motivation in professionals. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2004, vol.5, n.1, pp. 63-69. ISSN 1984-7270.

This research investigated relations between career commitment, career entrenchment and life motivation. It verified if career entrenchment and commitment differ in their relation to life motivation, and examined possibilities of correlation between these variables. Graduate professionals from different areas employed in a university participated in this study. Participants (58 men and 54 women) answered a career commitment measure with three factors: identity, planning and resilience; a career entrenchment measure with three factors: emotional costs, career investments and perception of career alternatives; and a life motivation measure (PIL-Test). Career identity correlated with emotional costs of change; perception of career alternatives correlated inversely with career planning. The results showed low correlation between career commitment and career entrenchment. Life motivation measure showed high positive correlation with career commitment and no correlation with career entrenchment. Results suggest that the constructs entrenchment and commitment have some aspects in common and some distinct. Other studies are recommended in order to clarify relations between those variables.
