MELO-SILVA, Lucy Leal; LASSANCE, Maria Célia Pacheco  and  SOARES, Dulce Helena Penna. Vocational guidance concerning education and work. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2004, vol.5, n.2, pp. 31-52. ISSN 1984-7270.

The aim of this theoretical study is to discuss some practices in Vocational Guidance in Brazil and how they influence and are influenced by public policies - or their absence - in the educational and production process. Data were collected from national publications and governmental sites. The analysis was guided by five themes: (1) historical land marks of vocational guidance; (2) populations and recurring issues and problems; (3) professional education, career development, job and income generation; and (5) evolution trends and needs. The systematization of information and the reflections about the different settings of actions concerning decisions about education and/ or work can contribute to the definition of public policies aiming at the implementation of a national net of professional guidance services that articulate with the education and job supply.
