Abstract

LASSANCE, Maria Célia Pacheco. Adults with difficulties in work adjustment: broadening the scope of the developmental approach in career counseling. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.1, pp. 41-51. ISSN 1984-7270.

This study proposes a model for adult career counseling based on a cognitive-evolutive approach, using cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques. It emphasizes the importance of the working role for the individual, and its relationships with other adult social roles. The model also integrates career development with the emotional aspects related to vocational indecision as depression and anxiety, distinguishing between indecision and indecisiveness. Finally, this study proposes an intervention process that helps to deal with those emotional aspects broadening the traditional frameworks underpinning developmental career counseling.
