Abstract

NASCIMENTO, Inês  and  COIMBRA, Joaquim Luís. The choice of intervention focus in psychological vocational counselling: contributions to an integrative approach of intervention. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.2, pp. 15-30. ISSN 1984-7270.

The profound interference of events and decisions related with work in other life domains explains the high frequency of counselling situations in which the vocational realm appears to be a potential generator or trigger of crises in intra-psychic or interpersonal dimensions of psychological functioning. The existence of such situations gives support to the view that the degree of psychological development of the clients’ personal system may be a significant factor in their success when facing the problems and tasks of their vocational paths. Given the high probability of vocational problems occurring associated with global development maladjustments and with specific emotional and relational disturbances, it is our intention to reflect about the new responsibilities demanded from psychologists who work in the vocational development realm when they themselves face the challenge of planning interventions that are sensitive and responsive to clients’ needs that transcend the traditional vocational limits, that is, reflect about the use of integrative vocational interventions psychologically oriented.

Keywords : Psychological counselling; Vocational guidance; Intervention focus; Professional competence; Ethical behaviour.
