Abstract

SPARTA, Mônica; BARDAGI, Marúcia Patta  and  TEIXEIRA, Marco Antônio P.. Models and instruments of assessment in career counseling: historical perspective and situation in Brazil. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.2, pp. 19-32. ISSN 1984-7270.

Assessment in career counseling in Brazil has changed over the past decades. This article presents two different models of assessment in career counseling, their theoretical underpinnings and related instruments: one model that focuses on the result and the other on the process of career intervention. Special attention is given to the development and use of these models in the Brazilian context. Most popular Brazilian instruments are listed and comments are made on their adequacy according to the Federal Council of Psychologists standards. Finally, this paper highlights the need to develop more valid and reliable instruments for assessment in career counseling and also offers a more solid theoretical background to counselors in Brazil.
