This paper presents some aspects of the Socio-cognitive Theory, more specifically regarding self-efficacy beliefs. This study describes: self-efficacy sources (personal experiences, vicarious learning, ability for verbal persuasion and physiological indicators), the cognitive processes that generate thoses beliefs and the interpretation biases that may lead to dysfunctional beliefs. In addition, an application of this theory to career development is explained, aiming at reflecting about other socio-cognitive mechanisms, such as: outcome expectations and vocational interests. Some researches are mentioned as examples of application of some theoretical frameworks to vocational guindance for the corroboration of some theoretical aspects.
