Abstract

MOUTA, Ana  and  NASCIMENTO, Inês. Teachers as (new) interlocutors in the vocational development of young people: an experience of consultation. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.1, pp. 87-101. ISSN 1984-7270.

Teachers, as outstanding agents in facilitating students’ education and training for life and citizenship, are often expected to offer strong support to students and contribute greatly with their career development. Thus, an informal mandate is added to the teacher’s role that may trigger a certain degree of questioning about their role at scholl and in society. This paper describes a career consultancy project for teachers that may contribute for (1) understanding the critical variables in career development; (2) exploration of the teacher’s role as an active agent for that development; and (3) the organization of strategies to infuse targets of career exploration in syllabuses of specific subjects, at the same time clarifying the factors implied in vocational development.

Keywords : Career consultancy; Teachers; Syllabus infusion; Vocational guidance.
