Abstract

ARAUJO, Uajará Pessoa et al. Expectations and action strategies regarding professional insertion. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2008, vol.9, n.2, pp. 81-96. ISSN 1984-7270.

This paper aimed at investigating the vision of engineering students from two Federal Universities about professional insertion. The data were collected from a questionnaire consisting of questions deriving from X and Y Theories and demographic and other specific issues. The data were treated by multivariate analysis. The results showed the existence of statistically significant relations, such as: job, expectations, strategies carried out to realize those expectations and some variables considered relevant: gender, previous education, type of engineering course attended and professional experience. These relations deserve consideration and receiving appropriate treatment, both by educators and professional guiders, aiming at reducing the likelihood of discordance in the transition student-engineering career.

Keywords : Vocational guidance; Higher education; Professional insertion.
