Abstract

BARDAGI, Marúcia Patta  and  TEIXEIRA, Marco Antônio Pereira. Evaluation of a cognitive-evolutive vocational guidance intervention with a group of Brazilian adolescents. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.1, pp. 23-32. ISSN 1984-7270.

The offer of career interventions for adolescents is increasing in Brazil, although there are few studies evaluating the results of those interventions. This study investigated the impact of a career intervention on three dimensions: career indecision, career exploration and career maturity. The subjects were 176 Brazilian adolescents aged between 14 and 22 years (66.3% women and 33.7% men, average age 17.2 years) who had looked for counseling in a university service between 2005 and 2007. Results showed significantly higher levels of career maturity and vocational exploration after intervention, as well as significantly lower levels of indecision. The results suggest that intervention can be beneficial, but also indicate that additional studies are needed to specify the aspects of the intervention which can be more effective.

Keywords : Vocational guidance; Evaluation of results; Career indecision; Exploratory behavior.
