Abstract

ROJAS HIDALGO, Luisa. Magic, religion and multiculturalism: a challenge for counseling. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.1, pp. 95-102. ISSN 1984-7270.

The XXI Century, when the diverse cultures and the school are intermingled, constitutes the appropriate time to implement knowledge and interaction from a same multicultural context. Counsellors, as promoters of social change, must know their roots and history, which have framed the cultural memory and creed systems. Religion is one of the key aspects to help understand the behavior of Latin American peoples. It is seen in balance with elements of magic, and agrees with the religiousness existent in Venezuela. This paper aims at describing and analyzing, as social facts, some religious and magical elements emerging from multiculturalism that set a standard for the construction of paradigms. This is a challenge for counseling.
