Abstract

FERREIRA, Ana Filipa; NASCIMENTO, Inês  and  FONTAINE, Anne Marie. The teachers’ role in the transmission of representations about vocacional issues. Rev. bras. orientac. prof [online]. 2009, vol.10, n.2, pp. 43-56. ISSN 1984-7270.

Considering the teachers’ role as influencing and promoting their students’ vocational development, this article investigates teachers’ discourses and actions about vocational issues. The methodology design included two components: (a) Lesson Observation and (b) Focus Group. Nine History teachers, teaching the ninth grade of the Portuguese Educational System, participated in this study. The qualitative analysis permitted to conclude that teachers construct and convey representations that influence directly and indirectly their students’ vocational development. The teachers’ action was analyzed as a starting point for the identification of clues that could contribute to the formalization of their practices, proposing curriculum infusion of activities with vocational exploration objectives.

Keywords : Vocational guidance; Teachers; Curriculum infusion; Representations.
